Iran Raps Western Silence on Israeli Attacks on Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian condemned the Zionist regime’s military strikes against Syria, saying the West’s silence on such Israeli attacks and destructive measures proves that their claims of support for stability in Syria are fake.

In a meeting with Syria President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Saturday, Amirabdollahian extended the greetings of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian president to Assad.

He described the recent visit of the Syrian president to Iran as a turning point in bilateral relations and as being effective and fruitful in promoting ties between Tehran and Damascus.

The Iranian foreign minister also hailed the Syrian government and president’s efforts to strengthen the country’s national unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He said the known enemies of Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are trying to disrupt the situation in the country, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Amirabdollahian then condemned the Israeli regime’s attacks against Syria. He described the silence of the Western organizations and also the failure of the pretentious Western governments to react to the attacks as an indication of their double standards.

He said the failure to seriously deal with the Israeli regime’s destructive moves and its acts of aggression shows that Western governments’ claim that they are making efforts to stabilize Syria and restore security to the country is not true.

The Iranian foreign minister added that this issue has further emboldened the racist Zionist regime to try to disrupt the situation in Syria.

Iran understands the current concerns, but opposes the use of military operations to resolve problems, Amirabdollahian stated, adding that the problems must be solved and concerns must be dispelled through direct talks and cooperation.

For his part, the Syrian president described the top Iranian diplomat’s visit to Damascus as important under the current circumstances and given the regional and international developments.

Assad criticized the Western governments for provocative acts in Syria for the purpose of settling scores, rivalry, and extracting concessions from other sides.

He referred to the existing concerns and dangers in the region, saying some of these issues are mutual among regional countries and must be resolved jointly through political means and dialogue.

“We are happy that under such circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran is part of the political solution in the region”, Assad noted.

He added that Damascus welcomes any solution that shifts Syria away from war. The Syrian president described his country’s relations with Iran as a strategic alliance and said over the past 40 years, ties between Tehran and Damascus have been growing.

Assad described Palestine as an important issue for both Iran and Syria, stressing that given the pressures on the countries of the axis of resistance, an alliance has been formed that is the alliance of the wills in the face of the global arrogance. He said, however, that few countries in the world have such a will.
