Iran’s Lead Nuclear Negotiator in Oman for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Baqeri, Iran’s top negotiator in the talks on saving the 2015 nuclear deal, traveled to the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday.

Baqeri arrived in Muscat this morning for a series of meetings with the Omani officials.

Last week, Iran and the US concluded two days of indirect talks in Qatar’s Doha in a high-stakes diplomatic process aimed at breaking the stalemate in the efforts to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

At the end of the talks, Iran and the EU said they would keep in touch “about the continuation of the route and the next stage of the talks.”

The talks in Doha follow seven rounds of inconclusive negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna, which began in April last year to revive the ailing multilateral agreement, which was unilaterally abandoned by former US president Donald Trump in May 2018.
