Shamkhani is going to visit Baku on July 15 at the invitation of Secretary of the Security Council of Republic of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov.
The senior Iranian security official is scheduled to hold meetings with top Azeri officials, including President Ilham Aliyev, for talks about the relations between Tehran and Baku as well as the latest regional and international developments.
The trip to Baku will be part of a tour of the Caucasus, which took Shamkhani to Armenia earlier.
During his visit to Yerevan on July 7, Shamkhani expressed Tehran’s opposition to any move resulting in geopolitical changes in the region.
