The technical committee of the federation had earlier said that Team Melli would participate in the World Cup with a newly-appointed coach but the board of directors announced on Sunday the Croat will lead Iran in Qatar.

Skocic took charge of Iran in February 2020 as Marc Wilmots’ replacement and secured Team Melli a spot in the World Cup in January.

Iran has been drawn in Group B along with England, Wales and the US.
