US Warplanes Conduct Airstrikes against Syrian Targets in Deir Ez-Zur

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – American warplanes carried out an airstrike in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez-Zur.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement cited by CNN on Tuesday that the aerial assault was aimed at what it called protecting US forces from attacks, and targeted military infrastructure facilities run by Syrian government forces and their allies.

It cited one such incident that happened on August 15 when armed UAVs attacked the area around the al-Tanf base, which is home to US occupation forces and the so-called Maghawir al-Thawra terrorists who are supported by the US and located in southeast Syria close to the borders with Jordan and Iraq.

No mention of casualties was made in the statement regarding the US strike on Tuesday.

Biden, according to the statement, gave the direction for these strikes.

On June 26, the US military said in a statement it targeted operational and weapons storage facilities at two locations in Syria and one location in Iraq.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Britain, claimed at least five people were killed and numerous others were injured.

According to Syria's official SANA news agency, one child was killed and at least three others were injured.

Damascus has repeatedly accused the US of plundering its resources, as proved by the large convoys of American forces transporting Syrian crude out of the country.

On August 21, the US military illegally transported 137 tanker trucks with oil from Syria to Iraq, Syrian state news agency SANA reported, citing sources.

Oil was transported in two convoys - one of 122 tanker trucks and the other of 15 - and used the Mahmoudiya illegal border crossing to get to Iraq, the report said.

The US is also training fighters of the Syrian opposition and the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group to conduct terrorist attacks in Damascus-controlled territory, according to Admiral Igor Kostyukov - head of the Russian General Staff's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) - while addressing the 10th Moscow Conference on International Security earlier this month.

Damascus has repeatedly decried the presence of US troops on its territory, describing it as an "occupation" and "state piracy" for the purpose of plundering oil.
