Oman Praises Iran for Releasing Baqer Namazi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Oman admired Iran for trusting the sultanate and releasing Iranian-American dual national Baqer Namazi, who had been convicted of espionage, on humanitarian grounds.

In a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian on Tuesday, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi expressed his gratitude to Tehran for its trust in the Omani authorities and its humanitarian move to hand over Baqer Namazi, who was convicted of espionage in Iran, to Muscat.

Albusaidi said his country has always supported Iran’s wise positions in the region and in international bodies.

Namazi was imprisoned in February 2016, after traveling to Tehran to secure the release of his son Siamak, an American-Iranian businessman, who had been detained in October 2015. They were both charged with espionage and collaborating with a foreign government and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
