Iran Urges Cooperation with Pakistan on Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran called for closer cooperation with Pakistan to help settle the problems in neighboring Afghanistan.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari discussed the latest international developments and the interaction between Tehran and Islamabad in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

Hailing the growing relations between the two countries, Amirabdollahian stressed the need for closer interaction between Iran and Pakistan on the issues relating to Afghanistan, particularly for the settlement of problem of the displaced Afghan people.

He also thanked Pakistan for condemning the recent terrorist attack on the holy shrine of Shah-e Cheragh in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz, renewed Iran’s sympathy with Pakistan over the deadly floods, and voiced Tehran’s readiness to provide relief aid for the Pakistani people.

Amirabdollahian finally lauded the age-old and friendly ties between Iran and Pakistan, calling for the expansion of relations at the bilateral, regional and international levels.

For his part, Zardari voiced Pakistan’s opposition to any violent measure or terrorist activity as a means of protest.
