At Least 25 Killed after Explosion in Pakistan’s Peshawar

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A suicide bombing attack took place inside a mosque in the northern city of Peshawar, Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of 25 people and injuring 120 others.

According to the country's media, the attacker detonated the bomb while 150 worshipers, including police officers, were praying.

The roof of the mosque collapsed and many were trapped under rubble and the rescuers are trying to remove debris and save victims.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack and promised stern action against those responsible.

Former PM Imran Khan also condemned the attack, calling for improved intelligence gathering and police equipment to combat terrorism.

Peshawar is the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and has seen frequent militant attacks.

The Pakistani Taliban, a close ally of the Afghan Taliban, are suspected of the bombing.

The TTP has waged an insurgency in Pakistan over the past 15 years, fighting for the release of their members who are in government custody and a reduction of the Pakistani military presence in the country’s former tribal regions.
