Gunmen Kill Three Iraqis, Including Army Officer

Saad Mohsen Marzouq, an officer in the Iraqi Air Force, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while driving in Fallujah, a city located about 50 km west of the capital, Baghdad, a local police source told Xinhua.

In another incident, gunmen opened fire on a joint checkpoint manned by police and Hashd Shaabi (PMU) forces in Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, killing one Hashd Shaabi member and wounding a policeman.

Meanwhile, in the eastern province of Diyala, unknown gunmen assassinated Ahmed Talal al-Madfaie, a well-known cardiologist.

“Sporadic attacks still haunt Iraq despite an improvement in the security situation after the defeat of the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) militants across the country in 2017,” a security official said.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or motives for the attacks.
