During his stay in Geneva, the top Iranian diplomat will also take part in a high-ranking conference on disarmament.

The Iranian foreign minister is going to hold meetings with a number of foreign officials and delegations on the sidelines of the conference.

Amirabdollahian is accompanied by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani and Iran's Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi.

Before the Iranian foreign minister’s departure from Tehran on Sunday, an informed source dismissed reports that Abbas Araqchi would accompany Amirabdollahian in the trip.

Araqchi is a former deputy foreign minister and a senior member of the Iranian team of negotiators engaged in years of nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 that resulted in the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
