Taliban Claim Killing Key Daesh Leader in Kabul

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Afghan Taliban announced on Tuesday that they had killed Qari Fateh, the intelligence and military chief of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), in Kabul.

According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, Fateh and another Daesh militant were killed during a raid on Monday night. Fateh, who held various positions in the group, including military leader, was described as the mastermind of attacks on diplomatic missions, mosques, and other targets in Kabul.

Mujahid also reported that a recent operation by Afghan forces resulted in the deaths of three Daesh members, while several foreign nationals planning deadly attacks were arrested.

In December last year, an attack on the Pakistani embassy in Kabul injured the security guard of Pakistan's chargé d'affaires to Afghanistan, Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani.

In January, the Taliban claimed to have killed eight Daesh militants involved in attacks on Pakistan's embassy and a hotel where Chinese nationals were staying.

In September 2022, a suicide attack on the Russian embassy in Kabul killed two staff members and a civilian, while ten others were wounded. Last year, Daesh terrorists targeted religious seminaries, mosques, educational institutions, and foreign missions in Kabul and other parts of the country.
