Iraqi Forces Kill 22 Daesh Militants in Anbar Province Operation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iraqi military reported on Sunday that 22 Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) militants, including some senior leaders, were killed in an operation in Iraq's western province of Anbar.

The military operation was carried out in two phases by an airborne force on a rugged area north of Rutba town in the western province of Anbar.

Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, head of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, confirmed that all the killed militants were wearing explosive belts and that the operation is still ongoing.

The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of Daesh in 2017, but remnants of the group continue to carry out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians in urban centers, deserts, and rugged areas.
