Iran Takes 4 Medals at Wuxi 2022 Grand Slam Champions Series
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Open Qualification Tournament for Wuxi 2022 Grand Slam Champions Series returned in style on Thursday with a full day of thrilling and competitive Taekwondo.
Iranian athletes won four medals at the Grand Slam on the opening day.
Iran’s Danial Bozorgi withdrew in the men’s -68kg to give his compatriot Reza Kalhor the victory. Jaegwon Kang from South Korea seized bronze, beating Ye Qiu of China 2:0.
In the women’s -49kg, Saeideh Nasiri won a silver after withdrawing against her Spanish rival Cerezo Iglesias in the final.
A Chinese bronze medal bout saw Xiaolu Wang beat her compatriot Shiyi Wang 2:0.
Abolfazl Abbasi snatched Iran’s fourth medal of the day with bronze as he overcame Yaoxi Wang of China 2:0 in the men’s heavyweight +80kg.
The tournament in China's Wuxi is the fourth edition of the Grand Slam which was launched in 2017 and was previously postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
