Iran, Syria Discuss Relaunching IKCO Production Line in Damascus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Syria held talk on Saturday for relaunching the Iran Khodaro Industrial Group (IKCO)’s production line in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Chief Executive of Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO) Alimardan Azimi, who has accompanied Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and a high-ranking delegation on a visit to Damascus, met and held talks with the Syrian Industry Minister Abdelqader Jokhdar on Saturday.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest situation of Syrian-Iranian Car Manufacturing Company LLC (SIAMCO) and the need to remove existing barriers in the field of production of cars.

Stating that huge investment has been made in the field of manufacturing cars in Syria based on the longstanding strategic relations between the two countries, Azimi emphasized, “Given the safe condition provided in Syria for production affairs, we are ready to manufacture new products of Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO) in this site.”

Turning to the good reception of IKCO’s products by people in Syria, he reiterated, “With the revival of this industrial and production site, we will compile and implement the roadmap for developing cooperation at the highest level.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the IKCO chief referred to the increasing quality and diversifying products of the company in recent years and the necessity of offering appropriate services, adding that his company is ready to activate widespread after-sales services in the Arab country.

The Syrian-Iranian Car Manufacturing Company LLC (SIAMCO) was launched in 2006 as a joint venture but the industrial and production company stopped its car production due to the outbreak of foreign-backed militancy in Syria. Presently, the officials of the two countries have seriously rolled their sleeves up to relaunch the company and remove the production barriers.
