Joint maritime and port cooperation between the two countries has fallen into oblivion, Adnan Musapour said, calling for serious support of the government for joint investment in the port and maritime sector.

He pointed to the key and constructive role of the private sector in realizing most economic objectives and urged the government to throw its weight behind this sector, especially in the field of maritime transportation.

Iran and Qatar have the potential to boost their ties in all fields especially ports and maritime cooperation, he said, adding that the high capabilities of the private sectors should be used optimally in this reganrd.

Memoranda of understanding (MoUs) should be signed between the two countries in line with strengthening cooperation in the port and maritime fields, he noted.

The development of maritime transportation between Iran and Qatar will improve maritime transportation relations with other countries of the region, Musapour emphasized.

The chairman of the Iran-Qatar Joint Chamber of Commerce added that the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Qatar registered a 45 percent growth in the last Persian caneldar year (ended March 20, 2023).

The volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Qatar reached from $143 million in 2021 to $208 million in 2022, he said.

Agricultural products, dried fruits and nuts as well as construction materials were among the most important products exported from Iran to neighboring Qatar, he stated.
