Ground Set for Boosting Trade Exchanges between Iran, Syria: Damascus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Damascus says that the grounds have been set for Iran and Syria to increase the volume of bilateral trade exchanges.

Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus Hossein Akbari held talks with Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.

The two sides emphasized strengthening mutual cooperation in the field of oil derivatives and electric energy as well as the pursuit of all agreements made during the recent visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria.

Stressing the need to open new horizons of cooperation in bilateral ties in various social, cultural, bank, sciences, technological and security fields, the two sides highlighted the need for adopting all necessary measures to expand economic relations, enhancing trade exchanges with the national currencies, setting up the banking channels and also diversifying joint investment projects in various sectors as well as launching programs for implementing agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) recently signed between the two countries.

The Syrian prime minister also emphasized the significance of encouraging trade and economic sectors in Syria and Iran for strengthening mutual cooperation and taking advantage of capabilities in line with improving the economy of the two countries that are under sanctions.
