TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two Colombian Air Force T-27 Tucano planes collided mid-air during a training flight near Apiay Air Base on Sunday, the military confirmed.

The Air Force released a statement, revealing that one pilot, a lieutenant colonel, has tragically lost his life.

"The @FuerzaAereaCol regrets to inform that two T-27 Tucano aircraft, on a training mission, crashed at the 2nd Air Combat Command," the Colombian Air Force said in a tweet.

"An inspection commission was sent to the scene of the incident in order to determine the causes [of the collision]," the statement explained.

A video, allegedly depicting the moment of the incident, has surfaced on social media. The footage shows several aircraft flying in close proximity, and at one point, a wing of one plane erupts into bright flames.

According to reports, the pilots were engaged in practice for an upcoming airshow in the city of Rionegro, scheduled for July 20. The T-27 aircraft is a variant of the Embraer 312 Tucano turboprop light attack aircraft.

The T-27 trainer was developed for Brazilian Air Force and used by most South American Air Forces. The plane replaced the CESSNA T-37.
