Iran-Russia Ties Positive, Excellent: Amirabdollahian


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian described the relations between Tehran and Moscow as positive and excellent.

Amirabdollahian and Igor Levitin, an aide to the Russian president, held talks in Tehran on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Levitin congratulated the Islamic Republic of Iran's full accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two officials also exchanged views about the latest state and measures that are afoot to complete the Rasht-Astara railway project and also the three-way transit MoU between Iran, Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

During an SCO summit, held via videoconference on Tuesday, Iran formally became a member of the organization.

The SCO is a transcontinental political, economic, and security alliance.

China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and now Iran are its full members. Afghanistan, Belarus, and Mongolia are observer states.
