Top Diplomats Underline Development of Iran-Malaysia Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Malaysia stressed the need for promoting the two countries’ relations in different fields.

Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Malaysian counterpart Zambry bin Abdul Kadir met on the sidelines of the meeting of the top diplomats of the Non-Aligned Movement’s member states in Baku.

They discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and Muslim world issues.

Amirabdollahian said Iran and Malaysia have many commonalities and underlined the need to boost economic and trade cooperation between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur to the level of their political ties.

He also noted that it is necessary for Iran and Malaysia to exchange delegations at middle and high levels between the two countries to promote bilateral cooperation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Amirabdollahian described agreements to engage in judicial cooperation and its continuation in relevant areas as important for exchanges between the people of the two countries.

The top Iranian diplomat also said the Malaysian government’s support for Palestine and its opposition to the desecration of the Holy Quran in some European countries was important.

Malaysian top diplomat, for his part, described cooperation between his country and Iran in different areas as important.

He said Malaysia is ready to explore ways of developing ties with Iran.
