"Syria has sent a message stating that the Bab al-Hawa border crossing could be utilized for an additional six months following the expiration of the trans-border aid mechanism," sources within the global organization revealed on Thursday.
The cross-border aid mechanism, which has been in operation since 2014, expired on July 11. However, on that day, the UN Security Council was unable to pass a resolution to extend the mechanism beyond the specified date.
A resolution proposed by Western countries aimed to extend the operation of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing for nine months, while a separate resolution, co-authored by Russia and China, proposed a six-month extension.
