Iran to Barter Petrochemicals for Basic Products with Africa: President Raisi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday said that agreements were concluded during his three-nation African tour to barter petrochemical products for basic goods and commodities.

The president, who returned home from a Kenya-Uganda-Zimbabwe tour, added that import of raw materials and staples and implementation of an extraterritorial cultivation plan were among the objectives of his visits to the three African nations.

“Like Iran’s relations with the Asian states and other countries of the world, our ties with the African Continent are important and relations with this continent, the land of opportunities, should not be overlooked,” he said, SHANA reported.

“The world is not limited to just a few Western countries, and we seek to expand our relations with all states in the world within the framework of mutual respect,” said the president and reiterated, “To us, the African Continent is as important as the American and Asian continents.”

During Raisi and his delegation’s landmark African tour, 21 documents on cooperation in different fields were signed between Iran and the three African countries.

The African tour, the first by an Iranian president in more than a decade, was aimed at diversifying relations amid US sanctions.
