Massive Flooding Prompts Evacuation of Thousands in Pakistan’s Kasur District (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pakistani authorities have issued warnings and conducted the evacuation of thousands of people as floods have submerged extensive areas of land surrounding the Sutlej river in Kasur.

Drone footage captured on Saturday reveals the scale of the devastation caused by the flash flooding, with collapsed and damaged houses, as well as submerged agricultural land. Local residents can be seen being rescued by boats from nearby villages where the floods breached protective walls, resulting in the destruction of buildings, livestock, and crops.

One evacuee, Muhammad Mansha, expressed the hopelessness felt by the affected people, stating, "This flood was sudden, all crops including corn and feed for cattle, all have gone. Cattle are in a miserable condition. Our people are hopeless, you can see around."

Another evacuee, Muhammad Boota, described the flood as surpassing his imagination, comparing it to the devastating floods of 1988. He shared, "It was all sudden, we were unable to plan anything. A few of us climbed on mud rocks and rooftops. Water levels kept rising and rising. Now we don't have feed for our small goats and sheep."

Local authorities report that over 14,000 individuals have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas surrounding the Sutlej river. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway.
