Iran Comes 3rd at Budapest Ranking Series

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team finished in third place at the Budapest Ranking Series on Sunday.

The Iranian team came third with 98 points. The Republic of Azerbaijan and Hungary finished in the first and second places with 140 and 113 points, respectively.

Iran's Danial Sohrabi beat Ulvi Ganizade from Azerbaijan in the 72kg final.

Amir Ghasemi Monjazi defeated Azerbaijan’s Beka Kandelaki 3-1 in the final bout of 130kg to win the second gold.

Mohammad Naghousi in 77kg and Ali Akbar Yousefi won two bronze medals.

Omid Arami had already seized a silver medal in 60kg.

The ranking points play a significant role in setting the wrestlers’ seeding at major tournaments, such as the World Championships.

The World Wrestling Championships 2023, which will take place from September 16 to 24, 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia, will serve as a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics 2024.
