Iran Condemns Quran Desecration in Denmark

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Foreign Ministry of Iran strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran in Denmark amid global Muslim outrage over similar sacrilegious moves in Sweden.

In a statement on Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani categorically condemned the recent insult to the holy book of Muslims in Denmark.

On Friday, an anti-Muslim group desecrated the Quran in Copenhagen, as the Muslim world is in a rage about a similar incident in Sweden.

The ultranationalist group called "Danske Patrioter" burned the holy book in front of Iraq's embassy in Copenhagen. They also carried a banner with insulting slogans against Islam, before stamping on the Iraqi flag and a copy of the Holy Quran under police protection.

In his statement, Kanaani reiterated the need for unity among the Islamic nations, governments and all followers of divine religions to deal effectively with any desecration of the Holy Quran and the Abrahamic religions’ sanctities across the world.

While the masterminds behind insults to the sanctities and tenets of more than two billion Muslims in the world are pursuing sinister plots, Iran believes that the free thinkers and advocates of right across the world will stand united against such ominous seditions and despicable actions, will discredit the true violators of human rights with vigilance, unity and solidarity, and will make them regret, he stated.

Highlighting the Muslim world’s efforts to hold the violators of Islamic sanctities accountable, Kanaani said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran proceeds with its contacts and dialogue with the Islamic countries, and will continue with the measures and efforts to stand against the 21st century’s ignorance which has targeted human dignity and genuine freedom of speech in the shadow of the fake Western freedom of speech.”

He held the Danish government accountable for the prevention of desecration of the Quran and other Islamic sanctities and for the prosecution and trial of the offenders, stressing that the Muslim world’s public opinion is waiting for the government of Denmark to take practical measures in this regard.
