Russia Will Win War in Ukraine; World Will Change after War: Duma Deputy Chief

“Russia will win (the war) and so will the countries that helped in order for the realization of justice in the world arena,” Pyotr Tolstoy said.  

“We told our partners in Europe a lot about our concerns on (arming) Ukraine but they refused to listen to us and stirred up anti-Russian sentiment in the minds of Ukrainians. In the course of 8 years, they exported weapons to Ukraine. Actually, Ukraine is fighting with NATO weapons and NATO is saying very explicitly that it would continue to arm Ukraine.”

He added that Russia will, in turn, continue to destroy those weapons and it is Ukraine that is destroyed as a result.

“The detriments of war will be known after the (end of the) war. The war will ultimately end but after that, the losses incurred by the Anglo-Saxons, the Europeans, the Americans and the British will start.”

Tolstoy said what matters is not just the war or Europe’s confrontation with Russia, but the change that will be witnessed in the world after the end of the war.

“I believe that the world will be different after this issue and it will certainly change and especially countries like China, Russia, Iran and Turkey that seek independence and upholding of justice in the international arena will find this possibility.”

He further said the US and the UK seek to undermine Russia. “They want to defeat Russia on the battlefield. They did not allow Ukraine to enter negotiations with Russia. In Istanbul (talks), we practically reached agreements about neutralizing Ukraine and, as a result, ending the military operation. However, Western countries insisted that Ukraine must defeat Russia on the battlefield.

“They delivered a large amount of ammunition (and weapons) to Ukraine to attack Russia but they achieved nothing.

“Sooner or later, everything will be over and we will reach new agreements on protecting Russia’s security, which is the top priority for Russia.”

As for Turkey’s expression of support for Ukraine’s NATO membership, made during a recent meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Tolstoy said Russia certainly can not have a positive view on that.

“Zelensky could join NATO himself but without Ukraine,” he said. 

He also said Russian President Vladimir Putin has always fulfilled his commitments regarding Turkey and hopes Russia’s partners will do the same but Erdogan has violated his commitments (to Russia).

Elsewhere in the interview, the deputy chairman of Russia’s State Duma referred to the ties between Tehran and Moscow, saying the bilateral relations are on a growing path.

“We have never severed ties with the Persian Gulf countries and Iran. Actually, we have strengthened our cooperation. For example, we have (signed) many memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on (cooperation) in the field of oil and we are very happy to be working with Iran in this field in order to reach great economic and political gains.”

He added that countries like Iran and Russia are on the right path, which is the path of independence and safeguarding their territorial integrity.

Asked about a recent agreement reached by Iran and Saudi Arabia to restore their ties, Tolstoy said, “We are very pleased that such an agreement has been reached. We have good relations with both Iran and Saudi Arabia.”
