Iran Can Export 100,000 Barrels of Crude to Syria Daily: NIORDCO

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – With the repair and maintenance services of Syria’s Homs Refinery completed, Iran can export 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) to Syria, the chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said.

Speaking in an interview with FARS news agency on Monday, Jalil Salari pointed to the plan devised by the current administration for enhancing the presence in the extraterritorial refineries in Syria and added that a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been inked between Iran, Venezuela and Syria to build a new 140,000-oil refinery in the Arab country, provided that the oil required in the refinery should be supplied both by Iran and Venezuela.

With the feasibility studies made in this regard, a 140,000-barrel oil refinery was designed next to two existing refineries in Syria named "Homs" and "Baniyas", he added.

With the basic repair and maintenance services of this refinery, Iran will be able to export 100,000 bpd to Syria, Salari stated.

He went on to say that basic repair and maintenance services of the extraterritorial refineries will need negligible investment compared to the construction of a new refinery.

From the economic point of view, repairing the Homs Refinery will be a win-win equation for Iran and Syria, CEO of NIORDC underlined.

Also, repairing the refinery will help supply fuel to the Axis of Resistance, Salari emphasized.
