Iran Committed to Its Int’l Obligations on Climate Issues: Roads Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of roads and urban development said that the country adheres to its international duties in the field of climate issues.

Speaking on the occasion of the “World Habitat Day” on Monday, Mehrdad Bazrpash said Iran, despite the toughest unilateral US sanctions imposed against the country, is committed to its international and religious duties in the field of discussions related to the provision of shelter and ecological and climatic issues including UN-HABITAT.

The World Habitat Day is marked on the first Monday of October of each year with the slogan of “Resilient Urban Economies. Cities as Drivers of Growth and Recovery”.

The World Habitat Day is recognized by the United Nations to reflect on the state of towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter.

In a message to commemorate the occasion, Iran’s roads minister wrote, “The first Monday of October every year is a reminder of the important mission that human societies have towards the growing and accelerated process of urbanization. An important and historical mission that is affected by the challenges and opportunities and especially emerging phenomena that have affected the environment and human habitat globally.”

In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken effective measures in the current administration by adopting integrated approaches, the most important of which is the launch of the National Housing Movement with the aim of providing housing for the middle-income and vulnerable walks of life, improving and renovating housing in inefficient urban textures and organizing informal settlements and developing new towns benefited from its domestic capacities and efficient manpowrer in cooperation with the people and non-governmental organizations, the message is read.
