Iran, Oman Urge United Support for Palestine
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Oman weighed plans to mobilize support from Islamic governments for the people of Palestine amid the Israeli regime’s deadly attacks on the Gaza Strip.
In a telephone conversation on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi discussed the latest regional developments, including the flare-up of tensions in Palestine.
Amirabdollahian referred to the crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in recent months, saying 260 Palestinians, including 40 children and 11 women, have been martyred and the number of detained Palestinians in the West Bank has reached about 5,000, of whom around 200 are women and children.
He added that at the same time, attacks and military aggression as well as the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque continue to be on the agenda of the Zionist regime, and the result of these actions by Tel Aviv was the response by the resistance, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Thanking Oman for its support for the Palestinian people, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran and Muscat have always backed Palestine and under the current circumstances, the people of Gaza and the West Bank need the support of Muslim countries more than ever.
Amirabdollahian pointed to his talks with the foreign ministers of a number of Muslim countries and proposed that Islamic countries’ top diplomats hold an emergency session soon.
Oman’s foreign minister, for his part, said while hundreds of innocent and oppressed civilians are being killed in Gaza, “we, like other world and regional countries, sympathize with the people of Palestine."
The Palestinian issue must be put on the agenda of the international community, Busaidi said, adding that the global community must recognize the right of Palestinians to decide their fate and liberate the occupied territories.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Oman underlined the need to continue consultations over the regional developments and pursue plans for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
