Palestinian Families Protest at Red Cross Office in West Bank

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Families of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails staged a protest in front of the Red Cross headquarters in Ramallah, within the occupied West Bank.

World

The demonstration prompted the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff to close their own office.

The protesters expressed their frustration, believing that the ICRC is not exerting sufficient pressure on Israel. They view ICRC workers as being on the front lines, witnessing events firsthand during demonstrations and raids. They are concerned that the ICRC is not taking decisive action.

The families' demands included urging the ICRC to increase pressure on the Israeli regime to secure the release of Palestinian prisoners or to facilitate visits by medics and lawyers. Additionally, they seek changes to the state of emergency law currently in effect. Delays in legal representation have escalated from three to six days, which is causing mounting concern.

Recent Israeli raids in several areas of the occupied West Bank, including Nablus, Hebron, and East Jerusalem al-Quds, have resulted in the arrests of at least 85 Palestinians, including four women. Many of these arrests occurred during raids in the villages of Kobar, northwest of Ramallah, Idhna, northwest of Hebron, and Biddo, northwest of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society reported that Israeli occupation forces have detained over 1,450 Palestinians from the West Bank since October 7. This has increased the total number of Palestinians in Israeli detention to more than 6,600, including 1,600 who are being held without charges.
