Iran in Talks with Egypt to Aid Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has been in contact with Egypt to weigh plans for lifting the siege of Gaza and supplying humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the enclave, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Nasser Kanaani said Iran has been holding negotiations with Egypt about the removal of the blockade on the Gaza Strip and establishment of a corridor to send humanitarian supplies to the enclave.

“We have emphasized the need for an end to the Israeli regime’s military strikes (on Gaza) as the overriding priority,” he said.

The spokesman said the Iranian foreign minister and the country’s Red Crescent Society have raised the issue of Gaza in talks with the foreign minister of Egypt, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the representative of the UN.

Kanaani bemoaned the fact that fewer than 100 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies have crossed the Rafah border crossing so far and that the consignments of aid have been stranded in Egypt.

“Our officials are in contact with Egypt. Iran is prepared to send aid (to Gaza) in case the situation is appropriate,” he added.

At least 8,005 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israeli attacks since October 7.

Fears of a possible strike on Gaza’s Al-Quds Hospital have grown after the Israeli regime ordered its “immediate” evacuation and as bombardment continues.

Deadly Israeli raids continue also in the occupied West Bank, where more than 112 Palestinians have been killed in three weeks.

More children have been killed in Gaza in the last three weeks than the total killed in conflicts around the world in every year since 2019, Save the Children said.
