Azadi Support to Inspire Persepolis: AFC

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis has quietly gone about having a good group stage since falling to an opening-day defeat to Al Nassr at an empty Azadi Stadium. Since then, two wins and two draws have seen the team rise to second in the Group E standings as it eyes a return to the knockout rounds.

Away from home, Yahya Golmohammadi’s side has been typically resilient, picking up a 1-0 win against Al Duhail on Matchday Two before claiming successive draws at FC Istiklol and group winner Al Nassr as it held a star-studded side that featured Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane goalless.

Persepolis now needs a win over Al Duhail on Tuesday to give itself a chance of reaching the last 16, the-afc.com reported.

The supporters at Azadi Stadium have witnessed – and, indeed, played their part – in many a memorable night in the AFC Champions League over the years, and they will look to roar their side on to yet another.
