Iranian, Malaysian Scientists Jointly Propose Innovations for Animal Health Improvement


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Groundbreaking research conducted by Iranian and Malaysian scientists has introduced innovative tactics to tackle Gastrointestinal (GIT) nematode infections in grazing goats, presenting promising strategies for improving animal health.

Hamed Kioumarsi, a researcher at Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), emphasized the significant impact of Gastrointestinal (GIT) nematodes on animal productivity in tropical climates. To address this concern, a comprehensive study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of integrating molasses/mineral feed blocks alongside medicated blocks in combating gastrointestinal nematode infections in grazing goats.

The research, led by Kioumarsi in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) faculty members Zary Shariman Yahaya and Abdul Wahab Rahman, aimed to evaluate various facets, including growth, efficiency, carcass characteristics, and blood metabolites, in managing animal husbandry practices. Kioumarsi highlighted the multidisciplinary awareness essential for effective animal husbandry in developing countries, leveraging the study's findings.

Notably, the results showcased the substantial influence of molasses/mineral feed blocks and medicated blocks on crucial metrics such as final weight, carcass traits, and blood parameters. The comprehensive blood analysis indicated significant alterations in factors like calcium, creatinine, urea nitrogen, and packed cell volume (PCV) with no adverse effects on body function.

Moreover, fecal egg counting (FEC) demonstrated the positive impact of utilizing molasses/mineral feed blocks alongside medicated blocks in controlling gastrointestinal nematodes, corroborating the study's efficacy.

Histological findings uncovered damage in the intestinal epithelium of goats affected by gastrointestinal nematodes in the control group, emphasizing the significance of the proposed interventions.

In summary, the study's extensive observations on growth performance, carcass traits, blood tests, fecal egg counts, and histological work strongly advocate for the implementation of urea molasses/mineral blocks and medicated urea molasses mineral blocks to improve animal health and commercial productivity.

Hamed Kioumarsi, affiliated with the Research and Education Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Iran’s Gilan province, was honored with the esteemed Pandawa Arbitration Prize in Indonesia. This international recognition, bestowed upon Kioumarsi by the distinguished Pandawa Institute, notably highlights his significant contributions to advancing scientific communication and dissemination within the realm of agriculture and natural resources.
