Iran, Uzbekistan to Ink PTA to Boost Bilateral Trade Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian and Uzbek officials agreed on activating the mechanism of banking exchanges, assigning the large-scale mines to Iranian contractors and signing the executive document of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with the aim of spurring bilateral trade and economic activities.

A senior official at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) pointed to the eight provisions of the most important agreement made between Iran’s minister of industry and Uzbek officials during a visit to Tashkent by the Iranian minister and added that Uzbekistan, as a major country in Central Asia, has always been at the focal attention due to its deep historical and cultural bonds with Iran.

Mohammad Sadeq Qannadzadeh noted, the deputy director of International Business Promotion of TPOI, pointed to the visit of Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Abbas Aliabadi to Tashkent and said that officials of the two countries reached agreements in the following areas: agreeing that the central banks of the two countries activate the mechanism of banking exchanges, introducing the trade banks for the advancement of the technical talks, cooperation of Iran in basic repair and maintenance of gas turbines, setting up a regional services center for overhauling the oil, refinery and power plant equipment in Uzbekistan, launching the gas boosting-pressure stations for Uzbekistan, participating and investing in construction of a refinery and power plant projects in Uzbekistan, assigning of large-scale metal mines including iron ore, copper, gold, etc. to Iranian contractors, equipping healthcare centers with the most modern equipment of Iranian knowledge-based companies, Mehr news agency reported.
