Iran Ready to Ensure Caucasus Security


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran welcomed peace negotiations between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, expressing Tehran’s readiness to guarantee strategic security in the Caucasus region.

In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, held in Tehran on Thursday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi hailed the historic, friendly and constructive relations between Iran and Armenia.

Referring to the issues of the Caucasus, he stressed Iran’s efforts to maintain the stability and security of this region, the president’s official website reported.

Raisi further welcomed and announced his support for the peace talks between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, highlighting Iran’s will and readiness to guarantee the strategic security of the Caucasus region.

“We do not agree with the presence of outsiders in the region under the pretext of solving problems, and we believe that their presence will not only not solve the problem, but will become a bigger problem for the nations and governments of the region,” he said.

Highlighting Iran and Armenia’s determination to develop trade and economic relations and to upgrade them to the level of political relations, the president stated, “We support the full implementation of all agreements made between Tehran and Yerevan, and this requires a double effort and diligent follow-up of the joint commission of the two countries.”

For his part, Grigoryan presented a report on the development of economic relations between the two countries.

He also praised Iran’s support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, and emphasized the Armenian government’s determination to develop economic and commercial relations with Iran, especially in the energy and transit sectors.
