FM Raps EU’s Plan for New Sanctions on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister hit back at the European Union for its hasty decision to impose fresh sanctions on Tehran for its recent retaliatory operation against Israel, advising the EU not to obey the US policy of appeasement towards the Zionist regime.

“It is regrettable to see the EU deciding quickly to apply more unlawful restrictions against Iran just because Iran exercised its right to self-defense in the face of Israel’s reckless aggression,” Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a post on his X account on Tuesday.

“The EU should not follow Washington’s advice to satisfy the criminal Israeli regime,” he added.

“It is also regrettable that while the Israeli regime continues its genocide against the Palestinians through different war crimes, missile attacks and famine, the EU’s reaction to such crimes is almost nothing more than hollow words. The EU must act responsibly and sanction the Israeli regime,” the Iranian foreign minister said.

His comments came after the EU foreign ministers agreed to impose new sanctions on Iran that would cover the alleged supply of missiles to other countries and entities.

The EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday that members of the bloc had agreed in principle during a meeting in Luxembourg to expand the EU’s current drone-related sanctions on Iran to cover missiles and their transfers out of the country.

In the early hours of April 14, the IRGC Aerospace Force launched a wave of cruise and ballistic missiles and drones against military targets in the occupied territories in retaliation for the Israeli regime’s April 1 airstrike that killed seven Iranian military commanders and advisers in Syria.
