Iran World’s 7th Crude Steel Producer in May 2024: WSA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran became the world’s 7th crude steel producer in May 2024, the World Steel Association (WSA) said in its latest report.

Iran produced 3.3 million tons of crude steel in May 2024, showing a 2.1 percent hike compared to the same period last year, the report added.

The association added that Iran produced 14 million tons of crude steel in the first five months of the current year, standing in 9th place in the global ranking after Germany and Turkey which produced 16.2 million and 15.5 million tons of crude steel respectively, IRNA reported.

The World Steel Association pointed out that 165.1 million tons of crude steel were produced by the major steel producers in the world in May 2024, registering a 1.5 percent hike compared to last year’s corresponding period.

Turkey, India and Iran registered the highest rise in production of crude steel in the first five months of the current year (January to May 2024), showing a 22.1, 8.5 and 7.2 percent increase respectively compared to the same period last year.
