Iran Abhors Torture of Palestinians in Israeli Prisons

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry lashed out at the Israeli regime for torturing Palestinians in prisons.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Nasser Kanaani cited a report released by The Washington Post on July 29 about “medieval torture” of Palestinians held in the Israeli regime’s prisons, saying the disclosure of such violence was only the tip of the iceberg.

The leaked reports of tortures and crimes committed in the Israeli regime’s Sde Teiman detention camp in the Negev desert, 30 km from the Gaza Strip, reveal that the Zionist regime has set new records in comparison with Guantanamo Bay detention camp and Abu Ghraib prison, he added.

The Iranian spokesman also called on the international organizations and human rights activists to honor their legal and humanitarian responsibility in this regard.

The Washington Post has released a detailed investigation into the widespread violence against Palestinians in Israeli prisons.

Through interviews with former detainees, representatives from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and an examination of autopsy reports, the report revealed alarming abuses.

The report details a harrowing case where a Palestinian detainee was fatally beaten by prison guards, resulting in broken ribs.

Another detainee died from untreated chronic illness and a third succumbed after pleading for help for hours with no intervention.

Autopsy reports verified by the NGO Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) confirm that these three individuals are among at least 13 Palestinians who have died in Israeli prisons since October 7, with a significant number from the West Bank.

The exact number of detainees from Gaza who have died remains unknown.

Human rights organizations have reported a severe deterioration in conditions within Israel’s overcrowded prisons, accompanied by pervasive violence.
