Jordan’s FM Makes Landmark Visit to Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Jordan Ayman Safadi visited Iran on Sunday amid heightened regional tensions following the Israeli assassination of the Hamas chief in Tehran and the Islamic Republic’s pledge of retaliation.

Safadi became the first Jordanian foreign minister to visit Iran in nine years.

The top Jordanian diplomat met with Caretaker Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Baqeri on Sunday.

The two officials discussed the latest regional and international developments as well as the relations between Tehran and Amman.

Safadi and Baqeri had held two telephone conversations over the past two days, as the Arab country seems concerned about the extent of the retaliatory response that Iran has vowed in revenge for the Israeli assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

The Israeli regime assassinated the head of the political bureau of Hamas in Tehran in the early hours of July 31.

Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the new Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony, was martyred in a special residence after being hit by an aerial projectile.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned the Israeli regime of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.
