Iranian Greco-Roman Wrestler Esmaeili Collects Gold: Paris 2024
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Saeid Esmaeili of Iran won a gold medal in the men's Greco-Roman 67kg of the 2024 Olympic Games Thursday night.
Esmaeili had to fight for his 6-5 win against Parviz Nasibov in the gold medal bout though after the Ukrainian, who took silver, opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period.
The Iranian staged a brilliant comeback in the second period to draw level at 5-5 and then eked out a slender lead, which he fiercely defended in the final minute.
Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan and Cuban Luis Orta won bronze medals.
