Iran Reasserts Right to Punish Israel for Unforgivable Assassination of Haniyeh

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made it clear that Tehran will exercise its right to punish the Zionist regime for the unforgivable violation of Iran’s sovereignty in the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.

In a telephone conversation on Friday, Araqchi and his French counterpart Stephane Sejourne discussed a range of regional and international issues.

Highlighting the diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza, the top French diplomat stressed the need for dialogue among all parties to reduce the tensions and achieve peace.

For his part, Araqchi pointed to the history of relations between Tehran and Paris, expressing Iran’s readiness for constructive negotiations to promote mutual cooperation.

Referring to the complexity of issues in West Asia and denouncing the Israeli regime’s policies to escalate tensions and spread instability across the region, the Iranian foreign minister called on France and the other Western states to focus on the main culpable party, namely the Israeli regime, in order to prevent the spread of war and escalation of tensions.

Slamming the Zionist regime’s criminal move to assassinate Haniyeh in Tehran as an unforgivable violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security, Araqchi reasserted Iran’s right to punish the aggressor.

Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the new Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony, was martyred in an Israeli operation in the early hours of July 31.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned the Israeli regime of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.
