Iran Summons Austrian Envoy in Reciprocal Move
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Austria’s ambassador to Tehran after Iran’s envoy to Vienna was summoned over his social media post in support of Hezbollah.
Wolfgang Dietrich Heim, Austria's ambassador to Tehran, was summoned to Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
It came after the Austrian Foreign Ministry questioned Iranian Ambassador Abbas Baqerpoor regarding a post on his social media account that praised Hezbollah’s recent retaliatory strikes against the Israeli regime.
The Iranian envoy’s post featured the Hezbollah flag -banned in Austria- accompanied by the statement “Hezbollah will win.”
In response, the director-general of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Western Europe Department told the Austrian ambassador in Tehran, “Hezbollah is a liberation and anti-occupation resistance movement, and an active and effective actor in Lebanon's political structure, with official representation in both the government and parliament of the country.”
The Iranian diplomat further expressed strong objection to the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s action, saying the questionable move contradicts the realities of the region and the nature of relations between the two countries, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
