14 Killed, Over 40 Injured in Israeli Airstrikes on Syria's Masyaf
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Fourteen people were killed and 43 injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting military sites in the Syrian city of Masyaf on September 8, according to Syrian state media.
Syrian state news agency SANA confirmed that the death toll rose to 14, with 43 others wounded in the attack.
A military source informed SANA that “the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of northwestern Lebanon, targeting several military sites in the central region.”
“Our air defense systems intercepted the missiles and shot down some of them,” the source added.
Dr. Faisal Haidar, director of the Masyaf National Hospital, stated that six of the injured are in critical condition.
SANA further reported that the strikes caused damage to the Masyaf-Wadi Al-Uyun highway, and a fire erupted in the Hair Abbas area, with firefighting teams working to control the blaze.
The airstrikes reportedly hit the Scientific Studies and Research Center in Masyaf.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), an opposition-linked war monitor, confirmed that “Israeli forces targeted a position in the scientific research area in Masyaf in western Hama countryside,” adding that ambulances were seen rushing toward the site.
Israel has been conducting regular airstrikes in Syria for years, and the frequency of these strikes has increased since the start of the genocidal war in Gaza. Late last month, Israeli jets bombed central Syria, injuring multiple people.
