Iran’s Transit of Goods Up 70% in 5-Month Period

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Some 8.6 million tons of goods were transited from Iran in both rail and road sectors in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2024), registering a 70.3 percent growth compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, 8.6 million tons of goods were transited from Iran between March 21 to August 22, 2024.

The volume of transit in the road and rail sectors hit 14.3 million tons and 1.6 million tons, respectively in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2024), showing a growth compared to the previous year's corresponding period.

According to the report, the volume of loading and unloading operations at the ports of the country reached 158.6 million tons in the past Iranian calendar year, showing a 5.5 percent growth compared to a year earlier, Mehr news agency reported.
