Esteghlal custodian Hossein Hosseini scored an own goal in the 40th minute and Akram Afif scored from the penalty spot in the 68th minute to give Felix Sanchez’s side a 2-0 victory at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
The win takes the Qatari side onto four points from its first two games in the league phase while Esteghlal remains on three points following its opening round victory over Al Gharafa earlier in the month.
Al Sadd will welcome Persepolis for their Matchday Three encounter on October 21 while Esteghlal host Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr the following day.
