Iran Rejects Allegations of Attempt to Influence US Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry dismissed the baseless allegations leveled in an annual US threat assessment that Tehran was attempting to influence the upcoming US presidential election by using artificial intelligence to disseminate fake or divisive information.

In a statement on Friday morning, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei rejected the groundless allegation of Iran’s efforts to influence the November 5 elections in the US.

He said such “hackneyed and baseless” accusations that a number of American officials and institutions have been making recently only pursue political purposes and have domestic political applications.

“The US government, which has a long record of illegal interference in the internal affairs of the other countries, is in no position to make such accusations against the other states,” Baqaei stated.

His comments came after the US Department of Homeland Security released the 2025 homeland threat assessment on October 2, citing a growing threat of Russia, Iran and China attempting to influence the November 5 elections, including by using artificial intelligence to disseminate fake or divisive information.

The report also claimed that Iran has become "increasingly aggressive in its foreign influence efforts”, accusing Tehran of seeking to stoke discord and undermine confidence in American democratic institutions.
