In a post on his X account on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei pointed to the topics discussed in a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Syrian counterpart Bassam al-Sabbagh in Damascus.

The spokesman said the two ministers have had “a very fruitful meeting” on Saturday.

“They discussed ways and means of expanding bilateral relations. They also reviewed the latest situation in the region. They agreed on the need for enhanced cooperation and coordination bilaterally & at multilateral settings to mobilize int'l support, solidarity for stopping the occupying regime's ongoing genocide in Gaza & its aggression on Lebanon,” Baqaei said.

Araqchi has also held meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Damascus on Saturday morning during a tour that took him earlier to Beirut.
