Israeli Military Detains 20 Palestinians amid Relentless Attacks in West Bank
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli forces conducted widespread arrests and raids in the occupied West Bank overnight, detaining at least 20 Palestinians in multiple governorates, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
The operations sparked confrontations in which several Palestinians were injured.
The Israeli army arrested at least 20 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, including former prisoners, during an overnight campaign, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reported.
Arrest operations were concentrated in Hebron (al-Khalil), Ramallah, Jerusalem al-Quds, Qalqilya, and Nablus, highlighting heightened security measures across the region.
The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that five Palestinians, including a child, were injured by Israeli forces’ gunfire during confrontations in the Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah.
Earlier, Wafa news agency reported that Israeli forces raided the residence of Hebron’s mayor, underscoring the continued and pervasive impact of military presence on daily life in the city.
Hebron’s Old City remains heavily restricted, with over 100 Israeli checkpoints and gates that limit Palestinian movement. Locals describe the area as resembling a “prison,” and businesses often close or install protective nets to shield against debris thrown by settlers living above them.
Israeli authorities enforce restrictions on Palestinian vehicles across 65 roads leading to Hebron’s center, including the historically significant al-Shuhada Street. Armed soldiers routinely patrol the Old City, often escorting groups of Israeli settlers.
Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem has stated that “systematic abuse and harassment of Palestinians by settlers has become an established part of life in Hebron,” further illuminating the toll of military occupation and settlement expansion on Palestinian residents.
The arrests and restrictions exemplify ongoing tensions and challenges in the West Bank, as Palestinian residents face intensified surveillance, limited mobility, and frequent clashes with Israeli forces.
