Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior adviser to the Iranian foreign minister for special political affairs and Iran's chief negotiator, held talks on Monday with Turkey's chief negotiator Mustafa Yurdakul and his delegation in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

In the talks, held within the framework of the 22nd international Astana Process meetings, the two sides discussed the latest regional situation and the political and field developments in Syria, especially against a backdrop of the Zionist regime's crimes and aggressive actions in the region.

Khaji condemned the Zionist regime's aggressive attacks on Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank and the genocide against the Palestinian people under US support, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

He also warned of the Zionist expansionist goals in the region, particularly in Syria, stressing the need for an effective strategy to counter these ambitions which are aimed at changing the realities on the ground in the region.

Khaji also expressed support for the talks aimed at normalizing ties between Syria and Turkey and highlighted the positive outcomes of this process at the current critical juncture in the region.

For his part, the head of the Turkish delegation expressed concern over the ongoing attacks and aggressions by the Zionist regime in the region, calling for an end to the actions.

Both sides stressed the need to advance political processes and support peace initiatives in Syria.
