Israel Intensifies Strikes on Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israel launched heavy airstrikes on Beirut’s Haret Hreik neighborhood Friday, as Lebanese media reported significant destruction to residential buildings amid mounting regional tensions.

A plume of smoke was seen rising over Haret Hreik, a southern suburb of Beirut, following what Lebanon’s National News Agency described as “a very violent raid.”

The attack came shortly after the Israeli army issued evacuation orders to residents near two buildings in the area, according to AFP news agency.

Local media outlets released footage capturing the initial moments of the Israeli airstrikes, showing severe damage to residential structures in the densely populated district.

Israeli forces have ramped up operations in southern Beirut in recent days, issuing multiple evacuation orders to civilians before launching large-scale strikes.

These attacks mark the heaviest bombardment of Beirut since Israel escalated its campaign against Hezbollah in late September.

Lebanese health officials report that since the war on Gaza began in October 2023, Israeli operations across Lebanon have killed 3,445 people and injured 14,599.
