TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior adviser to the Iranian foreign minister for special political affairs and the UN Special Envoy for Syria held talks on the latest developments in the Arab country whose Aleppo city has fallen to the terrorist groups.

In a videoconference on Monday, Ali Asghar Khaji and Geir O. Pedersen talked about the latest developments in Syria in the shadow of the military aggression of terrorist groups.

Khaji condemned the terrorist operations in Syria, describing them as part of the Israeli regime's aggression against the region and Syria, and also part of the expansionist goals aimed at altering the regional balance.

He emphasized that the people of Syria and the resistance will not allow these sinister objectives to materialize, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The Iranian diplomat also stressed the need for an immediate halt to these military aggressions by terrorist groups and highlighted the role and responsibility of the international community in effectively combating terrorism.

Pedersen, for his part, expressed concern over the escalating tensions in Syria, outlining the actions and contacts of the UN with actors involved in the Syrian issue.

He also underscored the necessity of finding a non-military solution to disputes in Syria.
